Community Guidelines
Draft — not yet final
YAKK4.com has not launched. These guidelines expand the content standards in our draft Terms of Use and still need the following before publication:
- Confirmation of the 18-and-over rule
- A moderation contact email address for appeals and questions
- A decision on whether surveying, drainage and civil plumbing join the starting communities
- Australian legal review alongside the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy
1. Who this is for
YAKK4.com is for people who work in Australian civil construction — the people who design it, survey it, move it, connect it and keep it safe. The starting communities are General Civil Construction, Earthmoving and Plant, Safety and Site Management, Projects, Contracts and Costs, Technology, Software and AI, Careers, Skills and Training, and Materials, Suppliers and Equipment.
You do not need a qualification or a job title to take part. Students, apprentices, off-site and support roles are welcome. What matters is that you contribute as someone who actually works in the industry.
2. Talk like a professional
Critique ideas and practices, not people. Disagreement about method, cost or equipment is useful; personal attacks are not. Describe your own experience accurately, and say where it came from — a specific job, a specific supplier, a specific product. Do not present an allegation as an established fact.
If you are not sure whether something is true, say so and ask. A question is worth more than a confident guess.
3. Keep site details off the feed
Before you post a photo or describe a job, remove anything that identifies a private site or the people on it:
- Client names, project addresses, lot or plan numbers, and job or purchase-order numbers.
- Personal contact details of workers, clients or suppliers.
- Security information such as alarm codes, gate codes, camera positions, lock types or access arrangements.
- Identifiable people, vehicles, plates or signage without their consent.
- Drawings, survey data, geotechnical reports or client documents you are not entitled to share.
A photo of a machine, a roadhouse or a generic site is fine. A photo that tells someone where to find a specific site is not.
4. Safety first, always
Do not post content that encourages dangerous practice, bypasses safety controls, or describes unlawful activity as acceptable. If you are discussing an incident, focus on what was learned rather than on instructions that could hurt someone.
Do not use YAKK4 to report an emergency. Contact the relevant emergency service.
5. No professional advice, and no pretending
Posts are members' opinions, not advice from YAKK4, and we do not verify every contributor's qualifications or employer. Do not rely on a discussion for engineering design, surveying, plumbing, legal compliance or worksite safety decisions — consult an appropriately qualified professional and follow applicable laws, standards, permits and site procedures.
Do not impersonate another person, employer or organisation, and do not post under someone else's name or credentials.
6. Keep it about the industry
Do not send spam, run voting campaigns, or post advertising and unsolicited commercial promotion without permission. Recruiting, supplier recommendations and career advice are welcome when they are honest and relevant to the community. Do not manipulate votes, create extra accounts to get around a limit or a block, or try to evade moderation.
7. Reports, blocks and appeals
Use the report control on any post, comment or profile that breaks these guidelines. Reports are private: they are reviewed by authorised moderators and administrators, are never shown publicly, and are not displayed to the member you reported. A report does not automatically remove content or close an account — every report is reviewed by a person.
You can block another member. Blocking is mutual: neither of you sees the other's signed-in content or interactions, and thread structure is preserved with a placeholder so replies still make sense.
If your content is removed or your account is restricted, you will be told what happened and can ask for a review. Appeals are read by someone who was not involved in the original decision.
8. Moderation limits
These guidelines supplement the Terms of Use. Where they differ, the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy prevail. Community-specific rules may add to them. Where practical and safe, moderators explain their actions, and records of moderation decisions are kept for accountability.
